Charity vs Gambling

Vegas and Facebook

Whatever happens in Vegas, always ends up on Facebook! That is a testimony, ask the Fanatics! This is probably the longest blog you will ever read from me…so take a seat and order some coke!

ARMY had finally landed in Vegas in between the week, with Mokuasi leading the contingent. The guy had those metallic boxes we get admitted with in Form 1 and a banner with the national flag. Word is that it was treated as a diplomatic luggage and I still wonder how it passed the metal detectors at JKIA ya huko!

Friday night and there was no going out. Just like warriors on the eve of war, they aren’t allowed to touch their wives, concubines or whatsoever lest they bring bad luck. The next day was sacred, and I took heed and stayed indoors. Peeps like Laz were high by 11.00pm and had funny updates like ‘mlevi ni wewe!”

And by the way Laz inducted me to Club Sylk, one of the latest buzz in CBD. The pub is situated close to heaven and one has to go up a number of stairs. Me thinks that is to either make you sober if you coming from another drinking joint and you end up starting from zero….or a ploy to spot Mututho. By the way, what’s with those guys selling DVD-s at the entrance? Kuna sinema za walevi?

Spread the Love

Saturday morning, I meet Nguna, who apparently was sober and steady. Tough economic times I tell you. Made our way to St. Thomas Bernados, where the Fanatics were having a charity thing. We not only cheer the rugby team(s) but also cheer those with gloomy faces. Quite a turnout here and Priya has for once arrived before me. Priya is one of those people that pull events in our entertainment calendar worth following. Unique is how I describe them, they stand out! Some free advice dear, PC* may mean a lot, personal cheque, personal computer (giggles).

Clifford, how does one steal your t-shirt from the clothing line, kwanza with your (unique) name of CLIFFTORIS at the back? Hama Kayole! Myra shows up, with a camera that has 23% power. Sigh . Felix, all the way from Kisumu is here to show some love, he looks bus-lagged! Jules still has some charm on the kids, she is the lady behind the KambaSutra thing…check out her updates. Millie aka Kungfu Panda, nice to see you (sober). Munge, great to link up on such an initiative.

The centre is playing reception to two weddings. Reminds me of a time I confused wedding venues, after two wedding receptions were placed in the same area, and to make matters worse, both were Kamba weddings. I realized am in the wrong place after the bridal party arrived from a photo-shoot. Luckily, I had eaten!

These kids are wonderful, they take me back to when I used to run around bare-feet with a kaptula short that had seen the best of years and had over three layers. They call the place home, and all they know is their fellow mates and their caretakers. The home is actually older than anyone of you reading this, it was started at the same time the Union Jack was being lowered. It has maintained its standards and has indeed churned out generations and generations of citizens.

I join Allan Gohole (Steel Pulse) and decided to visit a house. ‘Peter’ and ‘Kioko’ are our host and these two lads were indeed warm, for they urged us to spend time at their living room. We took 20 minutes, learning about them and what they plan to be. I admit it was a great honor, being in the company of a Pulse, who is a parent and a professional doctor (well, today we forgive you for your lewd cheering) and the children, whose hopes lay in this home. Talk of being at the centre of life.

We play rugby with the lads, with some ladies skipping some rope. Lore had a basketball and well, I can still dribble. I miss that game, damn this weight and career (note the addition of career!)

We managed to fill up a van with food donations and clothing’s. Great working alongside peeps from Capital Fm who did the publicity of our Spread the Love Campaign. It’s all about doing great things in simple ways. 98.4fm, barikiweni! Those clothes and food will for sure go a long way in helping the home. The Ministry fraternity, you outdid yourselves, from Arigi to Joy to (the weeping) Tonyango, to Nyasubo who complains that I rarely tag her and even to our coast-o bunny John Kiarie, who was missing in action!

Hunger pangs strike us and we end up at T-Mall. That place will for sure scale up the number of bachelors in town. With Ksh. 100.00, one can have a hearty meal. So pocket-friendly and they have a variety of meals. Ladies, if your man comes home full, kindly time his hours of leaving work, they waylay for him at TMall! For lack of eating space, we crash at the basement, and the car bonnet becomes our table. Nguna buys their pilipili, which is apparently sweet. That is the problem of growing pilipili in Kasuku containers. We used to that one, where a single piece causes you issues when you are attending to some other personal duties. Green house sucks!

We head to Quins for the Kenya vs Warringah Rats game. Quins are happy they won the cup and well, they deserve it. They have two games to go and I think they will field in their devoted supporters, the likes of Julie, Kathambi, Busna and Katini, to at least have a feel of how it is panting in this beautiful sport.

Imade is around, all she says is ‘Mwanaume ni Mwamba….’ Puree and Lina, you will answer why you evaded charity. Tutaiweka kwa report form wenu wa end term. Caren, that’s a lovely tat, I see the need for t-shirt mutilating in the Ministry. No more questions as to how and why that happened, I left the tee-shirt safe and sound when leaving the house (pointing an accusing finger at Serah)

Even after the Quins guys came to sit next to us. They finished 5 crates of beer within 30 minutes. Guys, you spend 90 minutes playing rugby and you hydrate up with alcohol? We all need reasons to drink, and that was theirs…celebrate!

Kenya 15’s starts the game on a sour note, and the Rats seem to have the upper hand. Kollo is a linesman today and he is for sure dressed up in luminous colors, which I find appealing. The game gets tense and guys trade punches. These Australians are on a charity tour and they had the guts to trade punches, on our soil? The good thing is that rugby is a gentleman’s game and the matter is quickly resolved. Kenya manages a win, a sign of good things to come.

We land at K1 courtesy of ‘Air Force One’. If am not wrong, all this car has known is tee shirts. The owner needs put a disclaimer, “YOU ARE NOW ENTERING A TEE-SHIRT ZONE”. From the shores of lake Victoria to river Thames, the Ministry is rep!

Pulse orders some shots, which he finds very dilute. This the problem of getting used to drinking concentrated drinks, from your hood back in Eastlands. This is why we used to pitia downtown buying Pooler before hitting Holy-Mbao and Monte-Carlo clubs, you only buy a bottle after the Pooler.

Kenya takes on Wales and what a view, what a crowd, what a game. The Fanatics in Vegas are in red, ARMY is indeed taking over. Our coast-o bunny was right, sooner or later, Mr Price will be on our case. This is the year we taking over. Even IRB recognizes how the role of a Player 13 in the rugby world. You guys back in Vegas, you did marvelous. Even Joe the turntables Mfalme was in red!

You just have to give it up for the Kenyan community out there. They came out in large numbers, in disguise. These zangalewa guys caught our pap's eyes and well, 10 points unto them. It's all about being a Player 13, whether we win or lose. It's all about being there for the team. 1-3 forwards, 4-7 backs, 8-12 subtitutes...Player 13, that's ME!

Which reminds me about Waga Odongo, who scribbled something to do with rugby in Kenya. No hating but, there is a (very big) difference between a journalist and a writer. I don’t know where you fall Waga but, you have good command of English and a flair writing style. Keep it up. (maybe) that’s writing. The Ministry invites you to be its guest, same here. Take a walk in our shoes one day. (no pun)

Had Mututho’s boys checked into k1, they would have made a killing! The place is jam-packed. Nyasuba is celebrating her twenty-whatever birthday and the girls pull a surprise on her. She acts along and just like you and I would do, cries along. A creamy affair as there is splattering and wining. Soccer city had been taken over by the ARMY. Hope no one thought the military was out on a break, drinking.

Masakiey is also around with her workmates, great company they offer. She also resides from Eastlands and is one of those culprits that dandia a train and go on the roof to avoid paying the fare. These are the people who leave me with a smile every morning and evening. they have christened it 'Zion Train' and these snake-thing has indeed been a relief to many. Can't wait for the road trip this April. Check it out here.

Levi (our Lunje from Kawangware) is at a different counter. They say the closer you are to the well, the faster you get quenched. Levi has come from far, and I remind him of his bachelor life of having scrambled eggs for supper with bread and downing it down with juice. The pan will then be thrown at the sink and will meet water 24 hours later, when the urge for a meal comes up. He is in the company of Hekanusu (what a name!), who lauds my blog. You the people that drive this blog, the people I write about, for and to! Much appreciation bro, keep subscribing and share without fear or favor.

Collins Injera hits his 100th try of his career. Now that’s a feat in Kenyan rugby. Waga Odongo, take note. The try is against our sworn enemies New Zealand. Even the papers agree with the feat. Congrats bro! Kenya maul Uruguay but then England prove a hard nut to crack. One of this fine days, we will have you in our sifted hands, tutawakaranga kama mkarango!

Sunday morning and Jah is disturbing peeps watching the game. Ukilewa enda home! His ride is automated, once it senses the bugger is tipsy, it changes to a Mean (road) Machine, Mungu saidia!

shuga money!

Spent the afte detoxing as I await the next game, which is at midnight. Pulse is at the AFC elections which turn chaotic. I think Mumias needs pull out as a sponsor first for them to sort out their mess, they are slowly becoming a disgrace to (established) teams like Gor Mahia, who are currently raising funds to buy a bus! Another reason why I insist Waga tripped!. If football at the grassroots gets all that crappy, how about at the national level? Seven is the way to go, cohesive or not! You don’t get to see guys ‘kicking the buckets’ when it comes to rugby or cricket.

Passed out at few minutes to the game and missed Kenya’s victory over Australia. Am surprised at how peeps like Nancy stay up that late to watch it, she even called me to tell me of the good news. Nancy, karibu nyumbani! She has been insisting I try out screen on the green, where you people sit outside under the stars and watch a movie. It's more of a blankets and wine ya usiku! sitaki homa Nancy!

Am told it was a nail biting finish and the boys sailed off to the plate finals, where Samoa made it hard for them. We live to fight another day.

This coming weekend, we going to the land of Millie Mwango…"You killed my master, now I have to try and kill you with the snake style...you fight me with your monkey style...let's go to the mountain to fight"

That's Hong Kong Sevens, here we come, let such images TREND!
